Vibe 98.5 Dream Wedding Winner!

I am really happy to part of the Vibe 98.5 Dream Wedding again this year. The radio station wanted to involve the listeners in the selection of the winner this year. A few weeks ago we all got to meet the 11 finalists at Hotel Arts and I took a quick portrait of each couple. For the last few weeks listeners have been voting and on Friday the winner was announced. So here is the winner, Christine and Jon. I am really excited to get to work with these two.

On Friday morning quite a few of the vendors, plus the Vibe Morning Show crew piled into the Icon Limousine and drove over to surprise Christine and Jon with an on-air announcement. Check the Vibe 98.5 website on Monday for some of the photos.

Feature Article in Avenue Magazine

I have always loved avenue magazine. Its a pretty impressive publication when you consider it is "local". Their design and content is better than most multinational magazines. So I was really excited when the folks at avenue asked me to submit a few weddings for their first ever "avenue weddings" section. They chose Katherine and Matt's wedding from last August and I think they did a great job of the layout. Its on news stands now.

Please note that the cover photo of the magazine (left) is not mine, but the cover photo of the "avenue weddings" section (right) is.

Bit more skiing

I had another one of those horrible blue sky days. Worse yet I found myself on skis in the backcountry. Tragic really.

Here are a few photos from the afternoon of shamelessly shooting "ski porn" for whichever equipment company will buy it.

Going up.

Coming down.

Down.

and more down.

Some Skiing at Last

I think my last post pretty much summed up January for me. On Thursday, in Aisle 9 of Home Depot, while debating which paper towel holder was better, I finally snapped, abandoned my cart right there and decided it was time to head for the mountains, which for me will always be home.

On Sunday I decided to take a camera with me and I’m glad I did because it turned out to be a pretty nice day. Sometimes I like to challenge myself a bit so I just took one, 24mm lens. I do this exercise once in a while just to kind of keep me in “photography shape”.

It wouldn’t be a backcountry ski trip in the Kootenays without starting the day off by filling your lungs with two stroke exhaust. Actually, #64 has become a bit of a legend, however it is definitely not helping the environment much, which kind of bothers me a bit. We don’t actually use the Ski-doo for skiing though. We just drive it to a starting point and then park it for the day. All the actual skiing we do is human powered, so I guess it kind of balances things out.

Like I said. #64. Its a legend. Actually, we didn't put the number on it. We bought it used off a guy who bought it used off a guy, who bought it used off a guy, who bought it used off a guy who bought it used from Calgary Olympic Park. I think it was probably new for the 88 Olympics. Anyways, I think they put the number on it.

My brother and his girlfriend came down from Fernie for the day and were both nursing sore faces from mild frost bite. They claim the skiing has been so good lately in Fernie that the stopping to warm up their skin wasn’t an option.

Snow ghosts are one of my favourite subjects to photograph.

Face shot.

Without their masks. Asking them to smile wasn't necessary.

On the way home we stopped into Fernie for a quick lunch at my brothers, which was a solid 9 out of 10. Good job. The snow banks in Fernie are hilarious.

This is the front of their house. If you think there is some sort of trick photography going on check out the next photo of their front door from inside.
